a No-Commitment Saturday

Last Saturday we didn't have a single plan. It was the first Saturday in a LONG time that we didn't have anything scheduled. It was a beautiful day, so we decided to head to the Mini-Train. We were going to go there to celebrate Crew's 2nd birthday a month or so ago, but it was a crappy weather day, so it got postponed. Crew LOVED it!

Since we were down in the area, we decided to grab some lunch and then head to the Science Museum. We spent quite a bit of time in the Air exhibit- building paper airplanes, and creations for the wind tubes…

Learning from daddy:

There's a new Curious George exhibit right now with lots of hands on stuff. All 3 boys enjoyed it-- especially the wind exhibit.

We even experimented with Crew cat-napping in the car for his nap. While it's not something I want to do regularly, it's nice that he can now have a short nap and still happily function for the rest of the day.
Now that's it's starting to get cold out, it was nice to be able to enjoy one of our last few warm-weather days before I have to hunker down and prepare for winter! Go ahead, call me a wimp. How long until summer?

Halloween 2013

For Halloween this year we decided to do a family theme. Dave and I never dress up, and I think it's stretching it to say what we did this year was dress up….but we sort of did. William wanted to be IronMan, and Hudson wanted to be Captain America, so it only made sense for Crew to be Hulk. Since we were on the theme of Avengers, I decided Dave would be Thor and I would be Black Widow. The trouble is that all the Black Widow costumes are not appropriate for family trick-or-treating! So, I opted for a more modest "costume"- but with curly hair and red lipstick (per William's orders).

Here we are, The Avengers:

I have to say, this is the cutest, most non-mean Hulk I have ever seen!

I think he was confused about if he was IronMan or Spiderman!

AH, there we go:

Ever the poser:

Our usual Trick-or-Treating group has dwindled over the past years, as 2 families have moved away. :-( But that didn't stop these kids from having fun and collecting some serious candy.

On the hunt for candy (and Butterfingers for mom!):

At first, Crew was like "what is going on here?" Then when he saw what people were putting in his bag, he was like "This is the BEST day ever!!"

Laura Ingalls and IronMan- 2 peas in a pod!

Digging through and devouring the loot:

Crew was in absolute heaven:

After the kids ate their fill of candy, they all headed out to the backyard to play/burn energy while the adults ate yummy food and drinks, and waited for the kids to come down off their sugar high. Around 8:30 everyone started packing up to go home. William couldn't find Hudson, so we all started looking for him- assuming he was hiding outside somewhere…or sneaking more candy into his already full belly. Nothing. William headed upstairs to see what mischief Hudson was getting himself into, and this is what he stumbled upon:
I guess trick-or-treating was harder work than I realized! The kid went and put himself in bed. But not without keeping his tootsie pop close by.
