Spring!!

I am so excited that it's finally spring! The other day when I checked the 10-day forecast, the highs were nearly all in the 80's. I love it.

We have been frequenting the park quite a bit since the weather has turned warm. I am a bit of a wimp, so it has to be near 80 for me to be outside without a jacket on. Last week was perfect for that.

Troublemakers

I got my new iPhone 4 in the mail today, right as we were finishing our lunch. The boys wanted to go outside to play, so I thought that would be a good opportunity to get it all set up, while watching them from the comfort of my couch in the living room.

It's a nice warm day out, so I guess they thought it would be fun to play in the water. After about 10 minutes of that, I told them no more. They were getting wet, and things were getting messy out there. About 10 minutes later, I look outside and they are dousing themselves in MUD, all the while chanting "we are bad. we are throwing mud. etc. etc."

I was not a happy mommy, but I knew what I needed to do: take pictures.

I was going to make them suffer the consequences by putting them under the faucet outside with cold water. But the mud was too caked on...they need hot water. So, I stripped them down (and then they took that opportunity to pee in the grass... ugh) and took them straight to my shower.

As of now, they are in sleepyland, and I'm crossing my fingers for a long one today!

Soccer Season

It's going to be a bit crazy this spring, as both boys are playing soccer. They are just far enough apart in age that they can't play on the same team. Both had their first game on Saturday: Hudson at 1:30 and William at 3. They both loved it! William was a little apprehensive when we first got there, but he warmed up quickly and did his share of chasing after the ball.

It was pretty cold and windy, but that didn't bother Hudson. He was the only kid in shorts, and of course, his sleeves rolled up!

William, on the other hand, isn't quite as tough (like his mama) when it comes to cold! He has on pants and long sleeves under his soccer clothes!

Our Friday Night

The boys had their friends, Emily and Sophie, over for a fun Friday evening. We started the evening by me painting their faces. The boys are really into having their faces painted these days...  I made homemade pizza and we watched Beauty and the Beast. They had a blast, and I had a world of fun cleaning up their fun.

officially a big boy!

Dave has been telling William for some time that as soon as he turns 5 he is going to have to learn to ride his bike with no training wheels. William has been on board with this for awhile. It was super cold here for the first few weeks of February after he turned 5, but last weekend it was beautiful. We took the opportunity to go over to the elementary school and start the training.

He was a little wobbly, but he did a pretty good job. We didn't want to push things, so we decided to wait a day or 2 to try again.

2 days later, Dave called me while he was out practicing with him, telling me that it just wasn't working. I gave him a few tips on ways to deal with William when he gets scared/nervous/uncooperative. About 30 minutes later, they arrived home. And what do you know? William was riding with NO training wheels...all the way down the street! (don't be alarmed by the cry at the end. Hudson had fallen over in the driveway...)

Playing in the snow, Oklahoma style

When we were in Oklahoma a few weeks ago for my uncles funeral, my hometown had just had the snowstorm of the decade. Thankfully, it had warmed up from the previous days' -30F! We had a blast in the snow.

Not sure if you can tell from this picture, but there were 3ft snow drifts on the deck!

The great thing about playing in the snow in Oklahoma: getting pulled around by the tractor! The kids thought it was the best ever.

Calling all Superheroes!

William requested a Superhero birthday party this year for his birthday.

We started off by all the kids coloring Spiderman pages...

Once all the kids got there, I explained to them the the SuperVillain was trying to destroy the party, and I was going to equip them to defeat him. Their first avenue of defense was their capes. I hate custom capes made for all the kiddos with their initial on the back.

As soon as they got their capes, the Villain arrived and dumped a bunch of "birthday bombs" (black balloons). Their mission was to defuse the bombs by stomping on them.

Their next avenue of defense was their superhero bracelets (Iron Man silly bandz). I had them do some warm ups to get ready to fight, if the time should come that the villain attacked again. Below is musical "chairs" complete with Superhero music.

About the time they finished musical chairs, the Villain arrived again, this time to drop kryptonite all over the floor! The kids had to use special thongs to pick them up and put them in a Hazardous Material bin:

Their final defense was Web Slinger (Silly string). We headed outside, in case the Villain were to try to get us there.

As they all gathered in the backyard, awaiting the Villain, they saw this:
and then the Villain jumped down from the roof, and the kids attacked:

After they defeated the Villain, we headed inside for Cake and ice cream.

 and of course, presents!

It was such a fun party, and William said it was exactly what he was hoping for!
